About Us

We are Sally and Rex, a couple of slightly nomadic Aussies currently giving our address (as of May 2024) as Leopold in the state of Victoria. Before that we were in Sheffield, Tasmania where we moved in 2017 from Tamworth, NSW where we first met in an old folks home (true story!). We both worked in a variety of jobs ranging from retail and service industries right through to our last gig as dairy farmers. Eventually we knew that a complete change was necessary in our lives so we packed everything up including the dogs and moved to Tasmania. During our nearly eight years there we established a successful accommodation business, including building a Geodesic Dome in our beautiful garden and a very popular self contained house known as Roland’s Feet Retreat.  In 2023 however we started a series of extended overseas adventures on our motorcycle, but things didn’t go entirely to plan with Sally suffering a near death experience in Cusco, Peru. You can read all about it the accompanying blog posts, particularly “The Best Laid Schemes of Mice and Men”. Consequently we undertook a major revision of our priorities resulting in 1. Recovering Sally’s health (99.9% successful). 2. Downsizing by selling off our business and our home in Tassie and moving into a wonderful community on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula(tick). 3. Blowing a large chunk of our retirement savings on resurrecting our world travel adventures (a work in progress).

We headed to Japan recently without our bike, to ease back into the groove of exploring other parts of the world. Then starting early June 2025 we will be getting right back on the horse so to speak and heading for Europe. The (new) bike has been shipped to London and should be waiting for us when we arrive. Our kinda vague plan is to spend almost a month in the UK and Ireland, then across the channel to France, Belgium etc. to Denmark where we meet our good mates Gina and Scott for a two-week tour of Iceland, returning via The Faroe Islands. Then we will join Compass Expeditions for a three-week exploration of Norway followed by a 12-day ride through Europe taking in Germany, France, Switzerland etc. before reaching Venice to join another Compass tour through Italy and various Balkan nations like Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia. From there Sally will be flying home via a visit to friends in Singapore while I attempt to ride the bike all the way back to Australia. What could possibly go wrong!?

We still harbour ambitions to travel to Mongolia where we hope we will firstly be travelling by motorcycles for 8 days then a full day on horseback to a remote village of reindeer herders where we will spend a few days living and working with them. We also want to see Canada and North America in general but given some of the stamps I may have in my Passport by then, like Iran, Russia and China, a certain “leader of the free world” may not be too happy to see me.

It is a slightly dangerous and uncertain time we live in so come with us and enjoy the ride as we SKID (Spend the Kids Inheritance Disgracefully) through the years ahead!!
